Changing Coastline

As stated above the town of Uppada has turned into a cyclone prone zone especially since the year 1970.

Among the 62 cyclones Uppada has faced
the cyclone in 1977, Huddud in 2014 and Montha in 2025  have majorly impacted the coastline.

Extreme deterioration of the coast has led the government to start rehabilitation schemes to shift many coastal settlements to the interiors of the town.

The town has also experienced loss of infrastructure like losing its coastal road and large chunks of land along with it.

The coastline of Uppada has been eroding at an average of 1.23 metres per year between 1989 and 2018, with the village losing over 126.7 acres of land in the last four decades, according to a study by researchers at Andhra Pradesh Space Application Centre (APSAC).
