Maleshwar Rao's House

Maleshwar Rao’s house once held more people than it does today. He lived here with his wife, his son, and his daughter, sharing the house across different stages of life. Over time, the family changed. His daughter moved to Hyderabad after marriage, and both his wife and son passed away. Today, Maleshwar Rao lives alone in the house, carrying the memory of those who once filled its rooms. The house remains active, shaped by his presence and the life he continues to live within it.

Incremental Transformation of Domestic Spaces
As his work continued, Maleshwar Rao expanded the house upward. A G+1 RCC structure was added in the front yard, changing the form of the house. The ground floor remained a space for everyday living, while the first floor became dedicated to weaving. This shift allowed work and domestic life to stay connected yet separate, with the loom moving upstairs as the house grew.

Routines of Everyday Life
Everyday activities in Maleshwar Rao’s house move between rest, weaving, and interaction with the street, reflecting how individual routines organise domestic space across the day.
