Sunday Rituals & Life In The Backyard
Every Sunday, the rhythm of the settlement shifts. By late morning, chores are wrapped up and the lanes begin to empty as residents gather at the church for Sunday Mass, which continues through the afternoon. With the entire community sharing the same faith, this weekly gathering functions not only as a religious ritual but also as a collective pause in everyday life.

Adjacent to the church stands a small house occupied by a family engaged in work outside fishing. The house remains closed for most of the day, as the residents leave for work and return only in the evening. The dwelling is compact, organised around a single multifunctional room, with a kitchen, inner verandah, verandah, and a courtyard leading into a backyard. Given the limited interior space, daily activities extend into the backyard, which also accommodates the toilets. This open area is enclosed by a fence, securing privacy and separating the house from its surroundings. In the absence of the family, an aggressive pet dog patrols the edge of the property, reinforcing this separation and forming an invisible boundary that discourages entry, even without the presence of walls or people.
