Venugopal's House

Venugopal’s house is home to a multigenerational weaving family. Venugopal and his wife, Varalakshmi, are both practicing weavers with weaving forming the core of their everyday life. Venugopal’s sister, Satyanarayana, also lives with the family and actively participates in household routines. Their children grew up in this house; the son now works in Hyderabad and the daughter has moved to Kakinada for training.

Incremental Transformation of Domestic Spaces
As the family structure changed over time, the house underwent incremental growth, transforming from a single-storey structure into a ground plus one structure. With this vertical expansion, weaving activities were shifted to the upper floor, allowing the ground floor to function primarily as a domestic space. This separation created a clearer distinction between work and home, while still keeping both closely connected within the same household.

Routines of Everyday Life
Everyday life in Venugopal’s house moves between weaving, household work, and ritual practices, showing how domestic and productive activities are organised across different floors and times of the day.
