Satish Kumar's House
family final.jpeg

Satish Kumar’s house is shared by four people who spend most of their day within and around it. Satish lives here with his wife, his mother, and their young daughter. Satish and his wife are both involved in weaving, and much of their day is shaped by this work. His mother spends most of her time at home, moving between prayer, rest, and small tasks. Their daughter grows up alongside this everyday life, learning and helping in small ways.

Incremental Transformation of Domestic Spaces

As weaving became more central to the family’s income, the house slowly grew to make space for it. The front yard was extended to add a new bedroom, changing the edge of the house. This addition allowed weaving to take place on a larger scale, with more looms and space for daily-wage workers who come to work here. What was once an open yard became part of the working house, shaped by the needs of the occupation and the people who depend on it.
