Fence for security, extended storage & resting space

Shifting Occupation & Enclosed Domestic Spaces

Among the auto drivers in the settlement a consistent house type can be observed, marked by similar spatial arrangements and scale. One such dwelling is modest in size and comprises a single multifunctional room, a kitchen, a verandah, an inner verandah, and a courtyard. The courtyard accommodates a toilet, an adjacent store room, and a combined storage and resting shed. For most of the day, the house remains largely unoccupied, as its residents are away at work, leaving the spaces temporarily dormant. The house is defined by a rigid fence that clearly establishes its boundaries. Two points of entry regulate movement: one opening into the common courtyard and the other directly from the road.

Together, the house is a simple and clearly defined unit, organised around routine and regular absence during the day. Its fixed boundaries and controlled entrances reflect a life shaped largely by work outside the home.
