Meet Lodha
The urban farming course was held at Aarey Vassundhara, and it focused on learning different processes of gardening. The course started with the discussion on urban farming, what it is, why it matters and what are the different ways in which it can be done, then we went on a sensorial natural trail observing the forest . We learned about the characteristics of good soil, synthetic fertilisers, we made a raised bed and planted different varieties of seed on it and learnt how to make amrit jal . We also got to learn about permaculture, container gardening and its advantages, pests and weeds, and about pollinator gardens and how they can help in the seed fertilisation process . The important thing was that we practically did everything like making the raised bed, making compost from household waste, making amrit jal, and making garlic spray which is used to protect the plant from pests and weeds. We understood how urban farming can provide fresh produce to city dwellers, reduce food waste, and improve environmental quality.
