Telling Stories Through photographs

-Meet Gala

As we started with the elective, the engaging conversations with Aslam aka @bombaykashana put light on the various dimensions and styles of photography, allowing us to explore various ways to capture moments in a frame and at the same time make the photograph more appealing to the eye. The next step involved discussions of\about Mumbai, various layers of Mumbai and how we individually thought of Mumbai and perceived it as a city. These discussions helped us to think about various layers/faces of Mumbai and how the city impacts/affects us all in some or the other ways. Then we further went on exploring the city on our own, searching for various stories, by talking to people, observing the city and even photographing some aspects of it. We realized that Mumbai is a city that wears different masks for different people. Soon we were entrusted with a task : to choose different situations and conditions scattered throughout the city and encapsulate their stories through a collection of 10 photographs. The challenge was not just to capture images, but to craft tabs that would resonate with anyone who lays eyes on them. Talking to people, interviewing them, knowing more about their lives; From chaotic lanes to serene corners, our lenses became the story tellers, narrating tales of Mumbai. This exercise not only honed our technical skills but also deepened our connection with the city; a city that breathes with the life force that is as diverse as its population. In the end, our photographic journey wasn't just about the images captured; it was about discovering the narratives hidden in the nooks and crannies of Mumbai. It was about peeling back the layers and showcasing a city that is as multifaceted as the perspectives we carry. As we scrolled through the collections of our 10 photographs, they weren't just pixels on the screen; it was Mumbai, immortalised in moments frozen in time.
