Attending the recent interior design lecture was an insightful journey into the world of materials, spatial creativity, and design themes. The session didn’t just involve classroom learning; it was an immersive experience that took us beyond theory into the practical realities of design work.

One of the most impactful parts of the lecture was the emphasis on materials. We ventured out to visit shops, where we had the chance to examine various products firsthand. This hands-on experience offered a deeper understanding of how different materials—like wood, metal, fabric, and stone—work in real-life design contexts. It also highlighted how crucial it is to choose the right materials, balancing aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability.

In addition to materials, the lecture also pushed us to research various themes and interior design styles, from minimalism to maximalism, traditional to contemporary, and even eclectic blends. This exploration of themes helped me appreciate how each design language can drastically alter the mood, functionality, and visual appeal of a space.
A particularly interesting challenge was understanding space-making in rigid, small spaces. Through case studies and examples, we learned how to creatively manipulate small areas to make them feel more expansive and comfortable. This exploration taught me the value of efficient space planning and multi-functional furniture. The idea that even the most confined spaces can offer limitless design potential was eye-opening and will likely shape my future design thinking.
Overall, this lecture was an enriching blend of theory and practice, offering an in-depth understanding of materials, themes, and space-making in interior design. The practical insights gained will undoubtedly influence how I approach design projects moving forward.
