Ceramic art, which is the process of transforming raw, earthy clay into model works. Each stage of this process contributed to the transformation of clay into works of art, rich in texture, form, and meaning.
It began with the choice of clay, which served to reveal the latent potential of the final piece. Depending on the material, there are earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain — and each offers a unique canvas.
The wedging and kneading of clay made it a malleable medium ready to be shaped into form by the hand of an artist. It was through throwing on a wheel or the accuracy of pressing and casting that made the clay into forms both functional and decorative. The piece was then sent for drying, where the ceramic shed its surplus moisture, preparing itself to be glazed. The glaze infused color, depth, and luster into ceramics. The final stage was where where the ceramic underwent the process of firing, solidifying the shape. The clay became ceramic in the kiln. Each of us made bowls, pots, plates that were then sent to for firing and glazing and collected them after they were done.
