The elective course started with introducing oneself with one lie and one truth, without mentioning which one is the truth. One looked deeper into their own selves and associated themselves with a few words that they felt best described themselves. The following exercises consisted of making self portraits with or without the help of the words that we had associated with ourselves. One of the individual activities included associating emotions with certain colors that one felt best reflected them. A range of emotions from joy to anxiety to envy were covered and each one of them chose colors that were the most relatable to the given emotion.
This later helped to generate individual color palettes- certain color ranges overlapped and kept repeating which decided the theme of each palette.
Further, the list of words, self portraits and color palettes were all shuffled together and multiple groups of pairs were formed. Each pair selected one word-list, self portrait and color palette from the mix to form a completely ambiguous collection. The intent was to to bring these three together in a manner that wove a story and we had to illustrate the same. The story could be as fictitious and imaginative as possible or it could take from real life scenarios. This task allowed the pairs to come up with complex characters having various sorts of personalities and experiences thanks to the diverse color wheels and self portraits. The illustrations could be read along with a script describing the story and the character.
The way of expressing some stories was not limited to drawing but extended into performances and spoken-word acts.
