Volume IV

This Volume of the Mumbai Neighbourhood Studies documents ten self built neighbourhoods in Mumbai. Forty percent of Mumbai’s population lives in slums or self built neighborhoods. People’s agencies play out here in making homes in adverse conditions, with a range of actors and agencies involved in the process of home production and settling on an everyday level. This study was done in collaboration with YUVA. It documents the emergent types in self built neighourhoods and the ways in which people innovate to create space.
