The studio was located in the Mahableshwar region of Maharashtra. It chose to study house type in Tapola with respect to its behavior and experience. The house configuration of the house type consisted of an open space fronting the house called the angan, the outermost space of the house called the padvi, which was the most public of the spaces in the house, where visitors would come and interact with the family. The padvi wrapped around the house to create a kitchen and a cow shed or gotha at the back. The next part of the house, a few steps up was called the osri which was the semi private space of the house. The innermost part was called the ghar, which was the most private part of the house and was mostly used for storage. The homesteads were studied using the frameworks of pattern language, which were then applied by the students to design local homestays in the region.
